Uni-Asia Holdings, an alternative investment company and integrated service provider of vessels and properties, has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Uni-Asia Shipping, has ordered three newbuild 37,000dwt handysize bulk carriers for $73m at Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding.
Delivery of the vessels is scheduled between 2014 and 2016 and will take the company’s fleet to eight ships.
“The current downturn in the shipping industry provides us with the opportunity to invest in, and build our fleet of vessels in anticipation of the recovery in the shipping markets,” said Kazuhiko Yoshida, chairman and ceo of Uni-Asia.
