The state government of Malacca is looking at building another big port in the region. Studies are being conducted into the possibility of developing a port capable of handling containers, passengers, roros as well as tankers.
Lim Ban Hong, who oversees the state’s transport portfolio, said,“Malacca does not have natural resources and is in dire need of an international port as a catalyst foreconomic growth.” He also pointed to growing trade between China and Malaysia.
Malacca’s two existing ports are Tanjung Bruas Port dan Kuala Linggi Port.
